Which Town Should I Stay In?
Estes Park Area
Depending on where you rent the Estes area is about a 10 minute drive from the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, that is close to the entrance of the Rocky Mountain National Park. This entrance will be closer to the Bear Head Trailhead, which is the start to many of the parks most popular trails. Including our favorite, Sky Pond.
The Estes Area is about 1 hour and 30 minutes to the Kawuneeche Visitor Center of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
This area has more options for food and other recreation then the Grand Lake side has, but with that the cabins are often more expensive than the Grand Lake side.
Grand Lake Area
The closest Rocky Mountain National Park entrance is the Kawuneeche Visitor Center, about a 5 min drive.
The Beaver Meadows Visitor Center on the other side of the park is about an 1 hour 30 minute drive, many viewpoint spots along this route to break up the drive.
This area may be more affordable that the Estes Park area, but it is also not as crowded.
There is not as many shops and tourists activities, which could be a good thing or bad depending on what you like to do during your travels.
